South African speedster, Kagiso Rabada has made it clear that if the situation arises for him to miss some matches of the IPL 2021 in order to play for his country, he would choose to represent the Proteas.

Kagiso Rabada, who plies his trade for the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, could miss the first week or even more of the forthcoming 14th edition of the tournament as it would clash with South Africa’s home white-ball matches against Pakistan.

Pakistan will tour South Africa for 3 ODIs and 4 T20Is from April 2 to April 16. The IPL 2021 is expected to commence in the first half of April. Apart from playing against Pakistan, Rabada will then have to undergo a quarantine period on landing in India. Hence, making him unavailable for the Capitals for more than a week.

With Rabada, Delhi will also miss the services of Anrich Nortje, who is also a key part of the Saffers.

“I might miss a week of IPL, but the country comes first. Delhi has been my home in India, but national duty is a priority,” the speedster said as quoted by iol.co.za.

Kagiso Rabada was the leading wicket-taker last season and was a crucial cog in Delhi reaching their maiden IPL final, but lost to Mumbai Indians.

Apart from Rabada and Nortje, Faf du Plessis, who recently retired from Test cricket, and Lungi Ngidi will be missed by the Chennai Super Kings in the early phase of the tournament.
