Former Australia spin legend Shane Warne is the latest from the cricketing fraternity to test positive for COVID-19. Shane Warne, coach of the London Spirit, in the ongoing Hundred tournament, isolated immediately after receiving the test result. He missed the team’s encounter against Southern Brave. Last week, Trent Rockets coach Andy Flower also tested positive for COVID-19.
Shane Warne reported feeling unwell on Sunday morning ahead of the Spirit’s game against Southern Brave at the Lord’s. The 51-year old’s rapid test came out positive and he awaits the result of the PCR one. While all the players remain unaffected, a member of his coaching staff has contracted the virus.
The club revealed that London Spirit’s head coach Shane Warne would stay on the sidelines from the match against Southern Brave at Lord’s. The 145-Test veteran tested positive for COVID-19 after the rapid antigen test and would isolate from the rest of the members. They confirmed that no player had been impacted.
“London Spirit men’s head coach Shane Warne will be absent from today’s match against Southern Brave at Lord’s. After feeling unwell this morning, Shane returned a positive lateral flow test and will isolate from the squad and support staff whilst he awaits PCR results. A second member of the team management is self-isolating after also returning a positive test. No players have been impacted,” the statement read.
David Ripley to act as London Spirit’s head coach in Shane Warne’s absence:
Meanwhile, David Ripley, the Northamptonshire head coach and one of the Spirit’s assistants, will coach London Spirit. Spirit needs a huge lift in the tournament, as they are the only winless team so far. They have lost three games out of four, while the remaining one has been a no-result.
