The Men's and Women's teams of The Hundred 2024 will be sporting black armbands during Monday's (August 5) fixtures to mourn the death of former England cricketer Graham Thorpe.
The former batsman passed away aged 55 on Monday. Thorpe represented England in 100 Tests and 82 ODIs between 19993 and 2005. He made his Test debut with a century against Australia in 1993 and soon became a key member of the England Test side. He was also a regular in their ODI side in the 1990s and played in the 1996 and 1999 World Cup.
In Tests, Graham Thorpe scored 6744 runs with the help of 16 centuries and 39 half-centuries. One of his finest moments in Tests came during the 2000-01 season when he hit centuries in Lahore and Colombo to help England clinch famous series wins in Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
A few months later, he registered his highest Test score by scoring an unbeaten 200 against New Zealand in Christchurch. In ODIs, Graham Thorpe scored 2380 runs with the help of 21 half-centuries. After the end of his playing career, he also served as England's batting coach.
Tributes have been pouring in from all around since the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the news of Graham Thorpe's passing away and the players participating in the ongoing Hundred will also pay their tributes to him by wearing black armbands. The teams will also observe a minute's silence before the men's match.
"Following the sad news of the passing of England cricket great Graham Thorpe, #TheHundred players will be wearing black armbands during today's matches, and a minute's silence will be observed by all four teams ahead of the men's match," Hundred stated in a statement.

ECB's tribute for Graham Thorpe:
Earlier in the day, the ECB also paid tribute to Graham Thorpe, stating that the English cricket fraternity is in deep shock over the England great's death.
"There seem to be no appropriate words to describe the deep shock we feel at Graham's death. More than one of England’s finest-ever batters, he was a beloved member of the cricket family and revered by fans all over the world," stated ECB.
"His skill was unquestioned, and his abilities and achievements across a 13-year international career brought so much happiness to his teammates and England and Surrey CCC supporters alike.
"Later, as a coach, he guided the best England Men's talent to some incredible victories across all formats of the game. The cricket world is in mourning today," it added.
