One of Sachin Tendulkar’s most notable qualities, aside from the countless honours that came his way and the multiple records and milestones he set in his amazingly long international career of 24 years, remained his discipline.

Tendulkar maintained his discipline throughout his life, from his upbringing in Mumbai’s maidans until the day he said his final goodbyes to international cricket at the Wankhede Stadium.

Former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris, who frequently faced off against Tendulkar during his playing days, claimed that Sachin’s desire to continue learning up until his final match was what really set him apart from the rest of the world’s cricketers.

We Should Never Label Someone As Young As Shubman Gill As A Complete Player: Scott Styris

“You are always learning, even towards the end, Tendulkar was still learning about his craft and he played, what was it? 200 Test matches,  So, you know, I think, you would never label someone so young, like Shubman Gill as a complete player. I still think there are holes in his game,” Styris told Sports 18.

Styris made his remarks in response to a question concerning Shubman Gill, a rising star from India, and whether or not he qualifies as a “full player.” Styris concurred that Gill is a gifted batter who has made a solid start, but he must continue to grow and emulate Tendulkar if he is to reach greater heights.

I think there are holes in his technique that the opposition will look to exploit, but he’s got all the skills and the other component. What makes a World class player is their mental thought process and their maturity and leadership. And I think he has that as well,” Styris added.
