Former Indian player Murali Kartik said that there shouldn’t be any speculation on team India’s head coach Ravi Shastri‘s exit after the T20 World Cup.

Shastri, who was appointed as India’s head coach in 2017, got reappointed after the 2019 World Cup and will stay with the team till the completion of the T20 World Cup in November.

The 59-year-old Shastri is unlikely to extend his stint with the Indian team for an additional year given that the limited age for a person to stay in the role of India head coach should not be above 60.

Ravi Shastri will always want India to win: Murali Kartik

Kartik, who played 46 international matches for India from 2000-2007, said that Shastri did not apply for the position of head coach so his intention should not be taken in a negative way.

Kartik also said that even if Shastri does not remain the head coach of the Indian team, the latter would still want India to perform well and win matches.

“First of all, what information I have is that he didn’t apply again, although is eligible to apply again for the same. There should not be any speculation about his exit because then we are looking at his intention in a wrong way. Any coach, whether it is his first day or his last day, would want the team to win,” Kartik told India TV.

“Speaking of Ravi (bhai), whether he is in the commentary box or in a coaching position, he will always want India to win. There is no doubt about that,” he added.

Who will be India’s next head coach after Ravi Shastri?

National Cricket Academy Director of Cricket Operations Rahul Dravid was the most favoured name doing the rounds to succeed Shastri as Team India‘s head coach. But the former Indian player reapplied for the position of head of cricket at NCA in August which ruled out the possibility of him taking over as the new coach.

According to recent reports, the Sri Lankan team’s director of Cricket and former Australian player Tom Moody will apply for India’s head coach post once Ravi Shastri’s tenure ends in November.
