English Veteran pacer Stuart Broad was a part of the squad that lost a Test series against New Zealand for the first time in seven years at home. With a hectic schedule lined up in the near future, Broad said that there will be no room for any excuses when England face India in a five-match Test series in their own backyard. India last toured England for a Test series in 2018, where the hosts emerged victorious comfortably by a margin of 4-1.
Meanwhile, this time around, the Indian team is much better balanced with their players more experienced regarding playing in English conditions. The Test series is scheduled to start from August 4 with the first Test in Trent Bridge.

With three mega-events coming up- 5 match Test series against India, the T20 World Cup and the Ashes, Broad said that there will be no room for excuses when the Test series gets underway.
“We will want our full-strength team on the field against India, in the Twenty20 World Cup and the Ashes. If we had our top team against New Zealand, where would we have given players a break? However, there will be no excuses when it comes to results from the India series onwards,” Broad wrote in his column in The Daily Mail.
A few of England’s key players Chris Woakes, Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali & Jonny Bairstow were rested from the test series against the Kiwis. They will be back in the team playing limited-overs cricket against Sri Lanka. While Jonny Bairstow will miss the first T20I against the Lankans.
Stuart Broad meanwhile, is placed sixth on the list of leading wicket-takers in Test cricket. He is on 522 wickets with his fellow England teammate James Anderson on 617.
Meanwhile, the England batsmen were hugely criticised for the technique applied in the recent series against New Zealand. Broad defended his batters whose techniques were being overly criticised.
“I had sympathy for some of the batsmen when their techniques were being dissected but at the top level you also deserve criticism at times. We drove at balls we didn’t need to drive at, were dismissed in ways that New Zealand planned to dismiss us — falling into traps is actually the most disappointing thing in Test cricket for a batsman,” Broad concluded.
