With 409 Test wickets to his name, Ravichandran Ashwin is eyeing to finish the World Test Championship as the leading wicket-taker. He has 67 wickets in the competition so far and is just four short of overtaking Pat Cummins’ tally of 70 wickets. He will be key with the ball even in the non-spin-friendly conditions in Southampton when it is India’s turn to bowl. India ended day 2 on 146/3 with Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane sharing an unbeaten 58-run stand at stumps.

During Team India’s photo session for the WTC final, Ravichandran Ashwin said that he always loves a fight and it is the competition that brings the best out of him. Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun also said on Ashwin that he is constantly trying to evolve his game and is trying to add something new to his bowling armory.

“I think whatever I have achieved so far in my career is because of that attitude, did not settle for anything, constantly looking to improve. I maintained that if I don”t like doing different things and if I lose the patience to do something new or get satisfied, then I might not play the sport anymore,” said Ashwin.

I Don’t Dwell On My Performances: Ravichandran Ashwin

The Indian off-spinner said that he does not like to talk much about his performances, as for him playing the sport and excelling in it is his profession.

“I don”t really read or dwell on my performances to be very honest. To be brutally honest I just hate the fact that I am who I am because of what I do. In India you get a lot of adulation but I am just another normal person who finds peace and happiness playing the sport,” he said.

Ravichandran Ashwin concluded by saying that Test cricket gives you room to always improve on your game which is what makes the format interesting.

“The beauty about Test cricket is you are always aspiring to be perfect but you can settle for excellence, so that”s pretty much I think I do,” Ashwin was quoted as saying by the ICC ahead of the ongoing World Test Championship final between India and New Zealand.
