Australia captain Pat Cummins expressed disappointment after the humiliating loss against India during the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. Pat Cummins stated that the outcome could have been different if they had played better cricket on the opening day of the match.

The Australia team started the five-match Test series with a 295-run loss against India at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Monday, November 25. They were bowled out for 238 runs while chasing a massive target on Day 4. Indian skipper Jasprit Bumrah was named "Player of the Match" for his bowling.

We Thought Our Perp Leading Into It Was Good - Pat Cummins

Speaking at the post-match presentation, Pat Cummins said that the team felt well-prepared for the match but admitted that things didn’t go their way in the game. He stated that they would take a short break before regrouping for the upcoming second Test match against India.

"Fairly disappointing. The preparation ahead of the game was a good one. We were firing, a fair bit to look at as lots didn't go right. It's just one of those games; not much went right. Yeah, it is what it is. After the loss, you need to get on the horse quickly. We will take a couple of day's rest and then go back to the field in Adelaide," Cummins said.

We Didn't Give Ourselves A Chance - Pat Cummins

Pat Cummins said that Australia missed opportunities, especially late on Day 1, which impacted their performance on Day 2. He stated that the team has experienced batters, but this match was a learning experience. Cummins said the team will focus on improving their performance.

"Didn't really give ourselves a chance. There are a few different facets where we could have given ourselves a chance, like the finish on day 1 with bat. We should have gone through that period on Day 1. If we could have had, then things could have been different on Day 2.

Ah... A lot of experience out there in the dressing room. This is a big summer. Just a sample size of one. They know how to come back. They are going about it well. There will be lots of conversations on what we can do better in the same conditions and plenty of time in the nets," Cummins added.

Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli Scored Centuries in 2nd Innings
