Former India head coach Ravi Shastri was in awe of the batting style of Suryakumar Yadav ahead of the game against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup 2024. He correlated the batter with AB de Villiers and said that his ability to outthink the bowlers makes him dangerous.
India batter Suryakumar Yadav is one of the best T20I batters to have played the game. His ability to play 360-degree shots makes him one of the toughest batters to bowl in the shortest format of the game. He is currently the No.1 ranked T20I batter, which speaks about his caliber as a batter.
Suryakumar Yadav is currently part of the Indian team for the T20 World Cup 2024. The middle-order batter started slowly in the tournament but it didn't take him long to return to his best as he played sensational innings for India in the last two games.
Suryakumar Yadav slammed his first half-century in the game against the United States of America. His innings came at a time when India was struggling to get going and lost early wickets. When the chips were down, he stepped up for his team and took them home with his brilliant innings.
In the next game against Afghanistan, which was also a Super 8 game between the teams, Suryakumar Yadav yet again came as a rescuer for the team. The middle order bailed the team out of trouble and slammed another half-century to take India to a winning total.
Ravi Shastri hailed Suryakumar Yadav's 360-degree ability in the T20I cricket. He pointed out how the batter hits the balls into unusual areas and makes things difficult for the bowlers. Speaking to the International Cricket Council, he explained:
"One of the few who can go 360 degrees and, hit parts of the ground that aren't easy to hit. He is much like AB de Villiers. He hits the balls into unusual positions and you know, confuses a lot of bowlers. He's a terrific player. He can outthink the bowler. He pre-empts he's very intuitive and he backs that challenge."
What makes him dangerous is his ability to improvise and outthink the bowler - Ravi Shastri on Suryakumar Yadav
Ravi Shastri further while lauding Suryakumar Yadav said that the batter's ability to improvise and outthink the bowler makes him dangerous. The former India head coach pointed out how the right-hander doesn't take time to get going and change the game. He explained:
"When he's looking to guess right. What makes him dangerous is his ability to improvise and outthink the bowler. He gets into a position where he makes the bowlers bowl at him and that's what makes him special.
"There's one thing with him, Suryakumar Yadav, he takes very little time to get going. And if you see his strike rates, within 20 balls, he's striking at over 200 most of the time."
Suryakumar Yadav will be next seen in action when India takes on Bangladesh in their second game of the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024. The match will be played at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua and Barbuda on Saturday (22nd June).
