Virat Kohli shocked cricket fans and experts around the world after stepping down as the Test skipper of India. Kohli, who was the captain of India in all three formats until November last year, now holds leadership in none of the formats. Last year in November, Kohli stepped down as T20I skipper. Later, BCCI also removed him as ODI skipper as they wanted the same captain in both ODI and T20Is.

Rohit Sharma, who is already India’s ODI and T20I captain, is highly expected to take up the leadership role in Tests as well. Under Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma was the Test vice-captain. Now, if Sharma is promoted as the Test skipper, the team will also need a new vice-captain. Here we talk about 3 players who can take up the Test vice-captaincy role.

KL Rahul will be the front runner to get the Test vice-captaincy of India. KL Rahul has shown his brilliance in batting in the longest format in the last year which also enabled him to cement his place as an opener. Moreover, the right-handed batsman is also a regular player for India in all three formats.

The 29-year-old was the vice-captain of the team in the recent IND vs SA Test series due to the absence of Rohit Sharma. He also led the side in IND vs SA 2nd Test in the absence of both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from the match.

Rishabh Pant is another player who might be promoted as India’s vice-captain in the Test format. Rishabh Pant has risen to the top since the start of 2021 when he played a prominent role in India’s 2-1 victory against Australia.

Moreover, Pant also gets a call in the national side in all three formats and is the first-choice wicketkeeper for the national side currently. Being just 24-years-old, he can also learn a lot of captainship skills if he is promoted as vice-captain.

Bumrah is also picked as the team’s vice-captain in the upcoming IND vs SA ODI series 2022. Bumrah also shares a close bond with Rohit Sharma, as both the players have represented the same IPL franchise Mumbai Indians since 2013.
