Tim David Reminds Me A Bit Of Andrew Symonds; If I Was A Selector, I'd Love To Have Him In My Team – Ricky Ponting

Legendary Australian captain Ricky Ponting showered praise on the explosive batter Tim David and said that the 26-year-old reminds him of former Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds.

Singapore-born Australian explosive batter David has performed exceptionally well while playing in different T20 leagues across the globe. However, he has not yet made his debut for the Australia National Cricket Team despite his outstanding run in T20 cricket.

The 26-year-old, who was bought by the 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) for INR 8.25 crore at the IPL 2022 mega auction, has participated in the IPL, BBL, CPL, PSL, T20 Blast and The Hundred.

While talking about David, the legendary Australian captain said that he would have loved to have the explosive batter in his team if he was the selector. He added that David is a match winner and he would be a great asset if he is selected in Australia’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2022.

“If I was a selector, I’d love to have someone like that in my team,” Ponting was quoted as saying in the report.

“He’s an out and out match winner. He’s the sort of player that could actually win you a World Cup; he’s not just the average run of the mill guy that might just sneak into a squad.”

Ponting further said that Australia have got some brilliantly talented players in the middle-order, but “none of them boasts a resume as good as” Tim David.

“He actually reminds me a bit of (late) Andrew Symonds back in the 2003 (ODI) World Cup. You know that if you get them in and give them an opportunity that they’re a chance of winning a tournament for you.

“That’s how I’d be looking at him right now and I know there’s some other quality players in the middle-order for Australia but probably none of them boasts a resume as good as Tim’s over the last two years,” added Ponting.

Ponting also labelled David as a very good and dangerous T20 player.

“(David’s) a very, very good and very dangerous T20 player that I’m sure the Australian selectors are thinking long and hard about for the World Cup in a couple of months’ time,” said the veteran cricketer.

In his successful T20 career, David has played for the teams like Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Perth Scorchers, Multan Sultans, Lancashire, Lahore Qalandars, Hobart Hurricanes, Surrey, St Lucia Kings, and Southern Brave.
