Australia’s Tom Moody is reportedly interested in becoming the next head coach of the Indian cricket team once Ravi Shastri’s tenure ends after the T20 World Cup in the middle of November.

Moody, who currently holds the role of director of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Sri Lanka national cricket team, is likely to apply for the top spot in the Indian cricket’s coaching unit.

According to a report by Fox Sports Australia, the former Australian cricket and well-travelled coach is eyeing the Indian coaching job, which is set to be vacated by (Ravi) Shastri following the impending T20 World Cup.

Moody had applied for the aforementioned role three times before this and twice was piped by Shastri in 2017 and 2019. The 59-year-old Shastri is unlikely to extend his contract for one more year as the BCCI clause suggest that the head coach cannot continue after the age of 60 years.

Since then there has been a lot of speculations about who could fill Shastri’s shoes in the Indian team with popular notion went with former Indian skipper Rahul Dravid, who was appointed India’s head coach in the limited-overs leg of the Sri Lanka series.

But in August, Dravid had reapplied for the role of Head of Cricket at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, which dismisses the possibility of him taking as the head coach of the Indian team.

Moody, who was the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad when the team won IPL 2016 under the captaincy of David Warner, was replaced by England’s World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss in 2019.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had an abysmal season as the side finished at the foot of the points table having won only three games in the league stage. The team also saw their all-time great David Warner being stripped of the captaincy role and was subsequently dropped in the final matches of IPL 2021.
