Indian bowler Mohammad Shami put up a terrific batting display to score his second fifty in Tests against England in the second Test at Lord’s. He scored five boundaries and a humongous six in his knock coming in at No.9.

After Rishabh Pant was dismissed early on Day 5, England looked well in control of the game. They were expected to run over India’s weak tail-enders. However, they were in for a surprise when the lower-order willow-wielders decided to put on a show at the home of cricket.

Ishant Sharma, playing overnight on 4, scored a couple of boundaries before being done in by a slower delivery from Ollie Robinson. Mohammad Shami was then joined by Jasprit Bumrah at the crease. They were watchful in the beginning, taking easy singles on offer.

The field was spread out by skipper Joe Root which proved to be baffling tactics against the tail. Shami, in particular, felt settled at the crease and started to play some exquisite shots. The strokeplay on display was extremely impressive, something atypical of No’s 9 and 10.

There were some beautiful cover drives, straight drives, and a compact defense to go with it. The runs kept on coming and there was no end to England’s plight. Shami picked up the ante after weathering the new ball and brought up his fifty off just 57 balls.

He reached the milestone, his second in Tests, off a 92-meter six over the cow corner boundary off Moeen Ali. Shami proceeded to remove his helmet and soak in the applause, with the Indian team up on its feet. At lunch, India had a lead of 259, with two sessions left.

They deservedly walked back to the dressing room amidst standing applause from the team as well as the crowd. It also sent Twitter into delirium, basking in the glory of two lower-order batsmen frustrating the England side.
