Former batsman Navjot Singh Sidhu has lavished praise on Team India and has backed the team to go all the way in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.

The former cricketer-turned-commentator's comments came after India's brilliant win over Bangladesh in their second Super 8 game of the World Cup. India thrashed the Bangla Tigers by 50 runs to all but seal their spot in the semifinals. The Rohit Sharma-led side had earlier thrashed Afghanistan by 47 runs in its first Super 8 game.

The win has further extended India's unbeaten run in the tournament. Along with South Africa, the Men in Blue are the only unbeaten side in the competition. Coming to the game against Bangladesh, India piled up a big total of 196 for 5, their highest score in the ongoing World Cup.

Hardik Pandya top-scored for India, scoring an unbeaten fifty off just 27 balls to take the team to a 190-plus total. The likes of Virat Kohli (37), Rishabh Pant (36) and Shivam Dube (34) played useful knocks as well. In reply, Bangladesh finished their innings on 146 for 8. Kuldeep Yadav picked up 3 wickets while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah claimed two wickets apiece.

Playing to win, playing for the team: Navjot Singh Sidhu:

Soon after India's clinical victory over Bangladesh, Navjot Singh Sidhu was all praise for the team's intent in the tournament. The former India batsman stated that all the players are playing selflessly for the team in the competition. He also heaped praise on Rohit Sharma's leadership.

"I can describe the intent of this team in one word: selfless. Playing to win, playing for the team. No one is playing for themselves. You see, everyone who has come, tried to bat fast.

"Secondly, no matter what you say, that guy (Rohit Sharma) has no deceit. His leadership quality is so amazing. There is no one in the Indian team now who seems out of form. Under Rohit Sharma's captaincy, there is a purity, a hunger to win, and most importantly, the country is the highest priority," said Sidhu before backing Team India to win the ongoing T20 World Cup.

India will be facing Australia next in their last Super 8 game. The game is scheduled to take place on Monday (June 24). The Men in Blue will be looking to make the most of their form and momentum and defeat Australia. The game will also give India an opportunity to dump Australia out of the T20 World Cup.
