Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra was full of praises for India's batting star Rinku Singh after his brilliant fifty against Bangladesh in the second T20I at Delhi. Chopra reckoned that Rinku should have been a part of India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad given his performances in the format.

Rinku scored 53 off just 29 balls during the Delhi T20I. His innings consisted of 5 fours and 3 sixes. He came in to bat when India was in trouble at 41-3 inside the powerplay. However, the youngster formed a key partnership with Nitish Kumar Reddy to bring India's innings back on track.

Both the youngsters stitched together a partnership of 108 runs in just 8 overs to help India go into a position of strength. Reddy smashed 74 off just 34 balls in just his second international knock.

Aakash Chopra feels "full justice is not being done" with Rinku

While speaking in a video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra remembered when Rinku was not selected in India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad despite excellent performances with the bat.

"Rinku Singh's story is very interesting. No matter how much you talk about him, it's less. I feel full justice is not being done with him. He should have logically been in the T20 World Cup squad because if you had seen his performances in the last year prior to the World Cup, he was outstanding," Chopra opined.

Chopra also spoke about Rinku Singh's ability to perform under pressure. Singh has mostly come out to bat when the team needs quick runs and has been successful in his short career so far.

"He (Rinku Singh) has done well wherever and whenever he has played. He gets to bat whenever the Indian team is struggling, whether it's against Afghanistan, South Africa, or Bangladesh. He has scored a half-century every time and then if you see his strike rate in those innings, you will say outstanding," the commentator added.

Rinku Singh's T20I numbers

Rinku Singh's non-selection in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad raised a lot of eyebrows when the team was announced. His performances had been great prior to the World Cup and he was seen as a potential finisher for India in the format.

He was groomed into the role and the youngster's execution of his role was also perfect. So far, he has played 25 T20Is and scored 471 runs at an average of 58.87 and a strike rate of 175.09.

Aakash Chopra lauds Rinku's versatility

Rinku's versatility makes him such a unique batter as he can bat at any position. Aakash Chopra feels that his ability to score runs consistently despite being moved up and down shows his strong character.

"We say many times that sport shows your character. Sport makes and shows your character. His temperament is outstanding. The curse of being versatile is that you are quickly moved up and down the order. He is asked to move up the order if there is a collapse, and is not sent at all and asked to play the finisher's role on other occasions," the former India opener added.

Rinku Singh has mostly batted as a finisher in his T20I career. He is used as a finisher for his IPL side Kolkata Knight Riders as well and has played his role to perfection. Performing consistently at such positions is not easy but Rinku has shown the temperament.

He batted at No. 5 in this match and needed to resurrect the innings after an early wobble. But Rinku ensured to stay calm under pressure and played a perfect innings required at that stage.
