Updated ICC World Test Championship Points Table After BAN vs NZ 1st Test

The Bangladesh team kicked off their ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle with a comprehensive 150-run victory over New Zealand at home. The Najmul Hossain Shanto-led team took a crucial 1-0 lead in the two-match Test series against the Black Caps.
After the victory, Bangladesh now holds second place in the new WTC points table with 12 points from one match. The Bangladesh team’s points percentage stands at 100%. Pakistan occupies the first spot with 24 points from two games and a points percentage of 100%.
New Zealand is yet to open their account, having earned none from their recent defeat to Bangladesh, resulting in a points percentage of 0%. Tim Southee’s team will be hoping to make a comeback in the second match of the series, starting on December 6 in Dhaka.

New Zealand finished sixth in the previous cycle of the World Test Championship. The Kiwi team secured only four victories out of 13 matches and drew three matches. It is worth mentioning that the team clinched the trophy in the inaugural edition of the tournament.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh missed out on a spot in the top 2 in the first two cycles of the WTC. They had a disappointing performance in the 2021-23 cycle. The Bangla Tigers finished in last position in the previous WTC 2021-23 cycle, securing just one victory out of 12 Test matches.
Bangladesh Register 150-Run Victory In Series Opener
Bangladesh posted a total of 310 runs after opting to first bat at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet. Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy scored 86 off 166 balls, including 11 fours. Glenn Phillips shone with the ball and took four wickets in the first innings.
New Zealand managed to surpass Bangladesh’s total with the help of Kane Williamson, who played a fluent knock of 104 (205). The Black Caps were bundled out for 317 runs, taking a 7-run lead in the first innings. However, they failed to perform well in the second innings.
The visitors were bowled out for 181 runs in the final innings of the match, suffering a 150-run defeat. The New Zealand batters failed to deliver while chasing a target. Daryl Mitchell scored 58 runs, while none reached 50. Taijul Islam picked up 6 wickets for just 75 runs.
