Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashes fastest century vs Australia in Youth Tests; equals Brendon McCullum’s record

Young Indian batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi is making headlines in Australia with his batting performance in the first Youth Test against Australia U-19. The 14-year-old batter registered a stunning century at Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane and set a new record for the fastest century on Australian soil in Youth Tests.
India dominated the opening day (Tuesday, September 30) of the first Youth Test against Australia, with their bowlers dismantling the home side for 243. Deepesh Devendran picked up a five-wicket haul for just 45 runs in 16.2 overs, while Kishan Kumar bagged three wickets.
Steven Hogan, who scored 92 off 246 balls, was the lone performer for the home side, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to contribute. The Indian openers gave an aggressive start in response on Day 2.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Smashes Century off Just 78 Balls vs Australia
Hayden Schiller started with a no-ball, and Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed two consecutive fours. After scoring 16 runs in the first over, Suryavanshi continued his aggressive approach. Ayush Mhatre also tried to attack but was dismissed in the fifth over for 21 off 15 balls.
Suryavanshi continued to dominate the bowlers and smashed Aryan Sharma for two sixes in the 15th over to reach his fifty from 37 balls. The left-handed batter and Vedant Trivedi added a 152-run partnership for the third wicket.
Suryavanshi then smashed a six and two consecutive fours to take India past 200 in the 30th over. He completed a brilliant century in just 78 balls, including eight fours and seven sixes. The southpaw put India in a comfortable position despite the early dismissals of Ayush Mhatre and Vihaan Malhotra.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Equals New Zealand Legend Brendon McCullum’s Record
Vaibhav Suryavanshi shattered multiple records with a 78-ball century in the first Youth Test against Australia U-19. He became the fastest batter to reach a century in a Youth Test on Australian soil, surpassing Australia’s Liam Blackford, who took 124 balls in 2023.
At just 14 years and 188 days, Suryavanshi also became the youngest batter to score a century in a Youth Test in Australia. This was his second Youth Test century in under 100 balls, having previously scored a 58-ball hundred against Australia U-19 in Chennai in 2024.
The left-handed prodigy also equaled New Zealand legend Brendon McCullum’s record of scoring two centuries in men’s U-19 Tests in fewer than 100 deliveries.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi Emerges as One of India’s Brightest Young Talents
Vaibhav Suryavanshi has emerged as one of India’s brightest young talents across formats. He set a new record for the most career sixes in Youth ODIs in the Youth ODI series against Australia at Ian Healy Oval, surpassing Unmukt Chand.
Suryavanshi first grabbed attention in domestic cricket during the 2023-24 Ranji Trophy season. He made his first-class debut at just 12 years and 284 days against Mumbai, becoming the youngest player in the tournament’s history.
The left-handed batter then became the youngest player to sign an IPL contract. Rajasthan Royals (RR) bought him ahead of the IPL 2025 season.
Vaibhav showcased his explosive batting by scoring a 38-ball century, the fastest by an Indian and second-fastest overall in IPL history after Chris Gayle, who hit a 30-ball century in 2013.
