Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag warned Rajasthan Royals (RR) player Vaibhav Suryavanshi following the IPL 2025 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The commentator advised Suryavanshi, the youngest player to ever play in the IPL, to stay grounded despite his impressive IPL debut.

The 14-year-old made his debut for the Rajasthan Royals in their match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) last week. He became the youngest player to play in the IPL and smashed a six off the first ball he faced from Shardul Thakur. The left-handed batter went on to score 34 runs off 20 balls before being dismissed.

You Will Get Praised For Doing Well - Virender Sehwag on Vaibhav Suryavanshi

However, Virender Sehwag warned Suryavanshi not to get carried away by the early success and the money that comes with fame. He stated that players should remain grounded, as both praise after good performances and criticism after failures are part of the game.

"If you step out knowing that you will get praised for doing well and criticized for not doing well, you will remain grounded. I have seen many players who come, get fame from one or two matches, then they do not do anything, because they think that they have become a star player," Sehwag said on Cricbuzz.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Must Aim For Playing 20 Years In The IPL - Virender Sehwag

Virender Sehwag advised Vaibhav Suryavanshi to focus on building a long-term career. Sehwag said that Suryavanshi should aim to play for 20 years in the IPL, citing Virat Kohli as an example. He added that Suryavanshi might not play another season in the IPL if he is satisfied with early success.

"Suryavanshi must aim to play 20 years in the IPL. Look at Virat Kohli, he started playing when he was 19 years old, now he has played all 18 seasons. That is what he should be trying to emulate. But, if he is happy with this IPL, thinking that he is now a crorepati, had a great debut, hit a six off the first ball, maybe we won't see him next year," Sehwag added.

Suryavanshi has scored 50 runs from two matches with a remarkable strike rate of 156.25. He has faced just 32 balls and hit five sixes. Rajasthan Royals secured his services for INR 1.10 crore at the mega auction.

Suryavanshi Could Get More Opportunities as Samson's Return Remains Uncertain

Rajasthan Royals' stand-in captain, Riyan Parag, revealed that Sanju Samson is recovering from a tear, but there has been no further update on his condition.

Samson missed two matches already, but his availability for upcoming games is uncertain, which could give Vaibhav Suryavanshi more opportunities to play. Suryavanshi will look to capitalize on these chances.

RR will lock horns with Gujarat Titans (GT) in their next match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday, April 28. The Royals are currently on a five-match losing streak and are eighth on the points table.
