Very Disappointed, In Fact Gutted...: Ravichandran Ashwin Shuts Down Senior Indian Journalist Questioning Jonny Bairstow's Dismissal

Time and again Ravichandran Ashwin has reiterated that he would always respect the laws of the game over the much-talked-about ‘spirit of cricket’. The ace spinner has made it clear that he would never hesitate in doing something that is well within the law of the game.
Ravichandran Ashwin found himself at the center of a huge controversy during IPL 2019 when he ran out Jos Buttler at the non-striker’s end after the latter walked out of the crease before the ball was bowled. The off-spinner faced heavy criticism from several quarters for not following the spirit of cricket.

Since then, Ashwin has maintained that he would always give precedence to the laws of the game ahead of the spirit of the game. And he reiterated it once again on Tuesday (July 4) when senior journalist Rajdeep Sardesai questioned him on the recent controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s response to Rajdeep Sardesai:
Bairstow’s contentious dismissal in the second Ashes Test has caused quite a stir in the cricketing world. The England wicketkeeper-batsman was stumped by Alex Carey upon wandering out of the crease believing that the ball was dead. On the final ball of the 52nd over, Bairstow ducked underneath a short ball from Cameron Green and walked out of the crease straightaway.
While he believed that the ball was dead, Carey did not. The Australian wicketkeeper threw the ball at the stumps and Australia appealed for a stumping. The third umpire eventually gave his decision in the tourists’ favor. The dismissal has once again made the ‘spirit of cricket’ the talk of the town and has divided the cricketing world into two halves.
As far as Ravichandran Ashwin is concerned, he has made it clear that he fully supports the dismissal. Ashwin took to Twitter to give his opinion on the matter and stated that the players should be applauded for such smart moves.
And the off-spinner had a fitting response for Sardesai when the veteran journalist questioned his stance on the matter. Taking to Twitter, Sardesai wrote: “Sorry to bang on about this but I do love the game.. To my friend @ashwinravi99 and all those who believe that Johnny Bairstow was fairly OUT .. I have a simple Qs: would you be happy if you were given out in that way? That’s the real test. Do unto others what you would do to yourself!”
Ashwin, known for his quick and savage replies, was quick to respond to the tweet as he replied: “I would be disappointed, very disappointed, in fact gutted with myself for getting out like that.”
