Pakistan red-ball skipper Shan Masood backed Babar Azam, glorifying his form in the PSL and anticipating a continuation of the same in the upcoming Test series against Bangladesh.
The Pakistan team has never made it to the top half of the WTC points table, and hence, they would be looking to make their way into their first-ever WTC Final under Shan Masood's leadership. PCB kept their faith in the skipper despite their poor performance over the past few WTC circles.
Pakistan have made a balanced start to the season with a win and a loss against South Africa at the start of this WTC cycle. They have now travelled to Bangladesh and will play in the two-match Test series, which resumes their WTC campaign.
Shan Masood anticipates Babar Azam's peak in international cricket after a heroic run in PSL 2026
Pakistani skipper Shan Masood will once again lead the national red-ball side in Bangladesh. The series begins tomorrow at the Sher-e-Bangla Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Pakistan would look to advance in the WTC points table by winning this series.
Several big names, including Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, and Shan Masood himself, will be part of the squad alongside the bowling attack comprising Shaheen Afridi and Hasan Ali. Several players returned following a stunning PSL season.
"I think he’s one of Pakistan’s best players, one of the best batsmen Pakistan has ever produced. Having him among the runs is always good. A batsman always gains confidence whenever he scores runs.
"For us, it’s a very good sign that he’s coming in with a lot of runs to his name. We’re looking forward to Babar replicating the performances he had in the PSL in these Test matches as well," said Shan Masood on Babar Azam.
Babar Azam's Peshawar Zalmi won PSL 2026
Babar Azam, the Pakistani veteran, has been in tremendous form in the recently ongoing season of the Pakistan Super League. The right-handed batter, who is now officially the highest run-getter in T20 internationals as well, was seen in promising touch.
Babar led his side, Peshawar Zalmi, to the top of the points table with a stunning winning streak and then led them to their second title in the history of the PSL. This is their first title in the PSL under Babar's captaincy.
He has featured in 11 matches and has amassed 588 runs in the season. Averaging 73.50 with two centuries, including one in the knockouts, Babar finished as the highest run-getter of the championship.
Shan Masood was also seen in promising form ahead of the Test tour to Bangladesh.
The red-ball captain of the Pakistan national side, Shan Masood, was also part of the same PSL. He played the first season for the Multan Sultans, a new franchise that also made it to the playoffs of the season.
Masood has amassed 367 runs across 11 innings and has taken the team home on many occasions. Masood scored just one half-century in the entire season, yet played several impactful innings that comprised well-made 30s and 40s.
Striking with a strike rate of nearly 160, Masood was also seen in fine touch and would have to play a similar role for Pakistan when they face off against the Bengal Tigers on their home soil. Bangladesh have been challenging for several major oppositions.
