Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq heaped praise on Indian opener, KL Rahul after he scored his sixth Test hundred against England at Lord’s in the ongoing second Test match.

KL Rahul, who is making a promising comeback in the red-ball format after a span of nearly two years, has been on the song since he scored back to back 50-plus scores in successive matches.

Rahul scored 129 from 250 balls, with the help of 12 fours and a six, this was his second hundred in England after he smacked 149 in the Oval Test that came in a losing game for India.

KL Rahul scored five of his six Test hundreds away from home: Inzamam-ul-Haq

Rahul made his Test debut in Australia and playing in his second Test in Sydney, he brought up his maiden Test hundred against a bowling line-up that had the ranks of Mitchell Starc and Ryan Harris. Inzamam noted that batsmen like Rahul are rare who get their first hundreds in foreign conditions.

“If we talk about KL Rahul, five of his six Test centuries have come away from home. This is second in England and he has scored a century in Australia as well. Very rarely do we see batsmen with such performances. Very few batsmen have such a record where their initial 8-10 centuries are away from home,” Inzamam said on his YouTube channel.

KL Rahul’s system is the opposite of others: Inzamam-ul-Haq

Indian batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar holds the record of most away hundreds with 29 to his name. Just like Rahul, Tendulkar scored eight out of 10 hundreds on foreign soil when he started his career. Inzamam said that KL Rahul is a different batsman who has more overseas centuries than at home.

“You might have seen plenty of players with away centuries, but usually they score their first set of hundreds at home, gain experience and then score away. However, KL Rahul’s system is the opposite,” Inzamam said.

“The confidence with which he is playing is great to watch. Even in the first Test, where he scored 84, it was more crucial than anyone else. He helped India gain the lead and played a huge role. So huge congratulations to KL Rahul,” he added.
