Aditya Sarwate, a left-arm spinner, helped Vidarbha bowl out Gujarat for just 54 runs on the third morning of their Ranji Trophy match at Jamtha. Sarwate had six for seventeen. The 73-run mark was therefore successfully defended by Vidarbha, making it the lowest target ever in India’s first-class cricket. The previous mark was 78, which Bihar successfully defended in Jamshedpur in 1948–1949 against Delhi.

Jamtha will host the first Test match between India and Australia, which will start on February 9. But unlike this match, which was played on a side pitch, that game will be played on one of the center pitches.

Aditya Sarwate Helps Vidarbha Defend Record Low Total

Another left-arm spinner, Siddharth Desai, had held Vidarbha to 254 runs the day before by taking 6 for 74. Even though Gujarat went to stumps at 6 for 1, a victory at that time felt like an inevitability. Sarwate, however, had other ideas.

On Thursday, after taking five wickets in the first innings, he again destroyed Gujarat’s batting order. Harsh Dubey, another left-arm spinner, assisted him and went 3 for 11 in his place. Only Siddharth, who was run out for 18, managed to score more than ten runs for Gujarat.

Sarwate’s 11 for 81 total, a career-high, earned him Player of the Match honors. Vidarbha currently shares second place in Group D with Punjab as a result of this victory. Punjab, who forced a follow-on in their encounter against table-toppers Madhya Pradesh, is poised to take the solitary second slot. Vidarbha’s last group-round match versus Punjab might determine who advances to the knockout rounds.

Vidarbha, however, has demonstrated that they are a formidable opponent to contend with and will be a difficult side to beat with their excellent victory against Gujarat.
