Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma drew the cricketing fraternity berserk as they opened in the fifth T20 international and blossomed in the process. The captain and vice-captain joined hands to pummel England’s bowling attack from the word go as they notched up a 94-run opening stand. Ajay Jadeja opined on the duo of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, stating that it’s incredible to watch them play together.
With KL Rahul out of form and India struggling in the powerplay in the first four T20Is, Virat Kohli took matters into his hands by deciding to open with Rohit Sharma. They both blasted 94 in 56 balls to set a foundation for a mammoth total. After Rohit’s 64 off 34 deliveries, Kohli joined hands with Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya to lift India to 224.
After India won the match and Kohli attained the man of the series award, the Indian captain revealed that he would open in IPL 2021 as well. Kohli’s innings of 80 from 52 balls in the final T20I had seven fours and two sixes. The right-handed batsman has also performed the best as an opener in IPL, hammering five centuries and averages 47 alongside a strike rate of 140.
For me, the pair of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is amazing: Ajay Jadeja
Ajay Jadeja opined that there is utmost respect for each other’s game and approach. Since Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma are senior players, they not only score runs but gauge the situation and support one another. The former Indian middle-order batsman underlined that the pair would be incredible to see what they could do in the future. Jadeja feels that if two top-quality players take the field together in any sport, they fare even better.
“I think there’s respect for each other’s game and approach as they understand how both of them play. Since both are senior players and it not only means scoring runs but also understanding the match’s situation, what their partners need, and hence, that is a massive advantage. For me, the pair of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma is amazing and what we will get to see would be incredible too. Because when two fantastic players take the stage together in any field, they play even better. Hence, nothing could be better if both bring their bits and come together,” Jadeja told Cricbuzz.
