Virat Kohli awarded Man of the Match vs Canada even before the toss

Former India batsman Aakash Chopra has backed stalwart Virat Kohli to win the man of the match during India's last Group A game against Canada.

The Indian team, led by Rohit Sharma, has already qualified for the Super 8s of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, thanks to back-to-back three wins. The Men in Blue first defeated Ireland by 8 wickets before crushing Pakistan by 6 runs and the USA by 7-wickets in New York. Their qualification for Super 8s was confirmed on June 12th with the win against co-hosts.

While all 3 of the results have fallen in India's way, former captain and now opener Virat Kohli hasn't been able to get runs under his belt. The highest scorer in the history of the T20 World Cups has struggled to find rhythm and balance in the tough surface laid at the Nassau County stadium.

Virat Kohli has scored just 5 runs so far from 3 matches but for India to win the World Cup for the first time since 2007, he has to hit his peak form. For that, the game against Canada is a good breeding ground. He should try to apply the same mindset as he had during the 2024 Indian Premier League season where he finished as the Orange Cap winner with 741 runs.

Aakash Chopra believes Virat Kohli won't face any problems against Canada

While speaking in his latest YouTube video, Aakash Chopra had some good news for all the Virat Kohli fans. Chopra claimed that if this fixture gets underway in the rain and flood-hit region of Florida, then Kohli is certain to become the man of the match.

Aakash Chopra is expecting to see runs come out of Virat Kohli's bat and break his run-scoring drought in the 2024 T20 World Cup at last. Chopra ji backed Rohit Sharma to score runs against Canada and he also feels that Kuldeep Yadav could bag a 4-wicket haul. The former opening batter predicted Ravindra Jadeja, too, that the All-rounder will pick up a few wickets.

"I feel, if this match happens, Virat Kohli could be the Man of the Match. I am expecting runs from Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's bats. In bowling, if Kuldeep Yadav plays, I am expecting at least three wickets from him. I feel Ravindra Jadeja will eventually come to the fore as well and pick up wickets." - Chopra said.

India to have no problem with Florida pitch, Chopra adds

Lastly, Aakash Chopra said that team India will not struggle to score runs freely on the Florida surface, which is unlike the surface in New York. With that being said, Chopra feels the Men in Blue are not going to face any problems against Canada and that they will be in a decent space to win.

"I don't see any threat in the opposing team because the Florida pitch does not pose any threat. If it had been New York, I would have said that you need to tread cautiously. I am not seeing any threat from Canada. I feel India will be in a very decent space." - Aakash Chopra concluded.
