Indian cricket fans were left shocked after former Indian player and teammate of Virat Kohli, Varun Aaron, called the veteran a "dog with the ball." The phrase, however, was used to imply his skills while chasing a total during the second innings of the game.

Virat Kohli made his much-awaited return to international cricket and said that he feels fitter than ever on returning to the game after such a long gap. However, his joy was short-lived as he had to depart early following his dismissal for a duck off Mitchell Starc in the first ODI at Perth.

There is a subtle reason why Kohli is called the 'chase-master,' as he is the greatest cricketer to have stepped into the game when it comes to leading the team to a win with dominance in the second innings.

Varun Aaron, in an attempt to praise Kohli over the same, called him out as a 'dog,' which led to another controversy surrounding the exceptional cricketer.

Varun Aaron falls within controversy, calling out Virat Kohli as 'dog with the ball.'

Kohli has relished immense fame and respect from cricketers around the globe; even legendary Australian cricketers have come to wish Kohli well as the veteran returned to the country for an ODI series. However, the same respect has been missing from his own countrymen.

Former RCB bowler Varun Aaron was in the commentators' panel when Kohli got out, and while discussing the same when rain interrupted play at Perth, he remarked that Kohli is a different player when it comes to chasing a set target.

He said, "Virat Kohli generally takes some time. Virat Kohli in the first innings and Kohli in the second innings are different players altogether. You just give him a target, and then he is a dog with the ball. He will just not leave that target."

Virat Kohli has amazing numbers against Australia in ODI cricket

Virat Kohli just loves playing in Australia, as he has not only scored many runs here in the island nation but has also dominated the Aussies on their land with his aggression and determination.

Coming to Australia over and over again, he has played in 29 matches in Australia and has amassed a record 1327 runs in the ODI format alone. Moreover, he loves this opposition as well, having scored 2451 runs against them, averaging a staggering 54.46 against the Men in Yellow throughout his illustrious career.

The batter has scored 8 hundreds against this opposition. He missed his 9th hundred against them in the ICC Champions Trophy semi-final back in Dubai earlier this year.

Virat Kohli's stupendous record while chasing targets in ODI cricket

Throughout his career, Virat has played in nearly 290+ international ODI matches and has chased in 166 of them. With 34 not outs and 8063 runs coming off chases, he is a different beast when it comes to the second innings of a One-day match.

Averaging much higher than his regular one-day average, Kohli averages a staggering 64.50 with a strike rate of above 90 during chases. He has scored 8000+ runs with the highest score of 183. He has scored 28 of his ODI hundreds while chasing a target.

While chasing against Australia, he averages a 51.1 and has scored 817 runs with 3 centuries and the same number of half-centuries to his name. Out of those 18 games, he stood not out in 16 matches despite being a top-order batter; such is his brilliance when chasing a target.
