Virat Kohli Has Taken The Team In The Right Direction- Alastair Cook
Former England skipper Alastair Cook stated that the Indian cricketer, Virat Kohli, built a formidable team and led it in the right direction in the longest format of the game.
Kohli stepped down as the captain of the Indian Test team following their 1-2 series loss to South Africa last week. He finishes as the most successful Indian Test captain with 40 wins in 68 matches.
“Kohli, 33, was right: being a Test captain does demand hard work and perseverance; and, yes, he has taken his team in the right direction. India may have lost the World Test Championship final in June but they are ranked No. 1 and so much of that is down to the hard edge he instilled. If ever a team was shaped in the mould of their captain, it is this India side,” Cook wrote in his column for The Times.
Alastair Cook was disappointed with England’s collapse on Day 3 of the Hobart Test
On Day 3 of the Hobart Test, England found themselves in a strong position at 68/0 chasing a target of 268. However, what transpired in the next couple of hours shocked Cook. England lost 10 wickets for just 56 runs, another stunning collapse in recent times.
“You don’t win games of cricket [batting in that manner]. The fact we’ve lost 10 wickets in an hour and a half… yes the conditions are tough, and some good bowling, but there was no resilience there.”
“I said at the beginning of the game it was going to be a really hard week for them mentally because they’re about to lose, go home, the thoughts about that, and as soon as they get put under pressure you see how much resolve there is. They showed a lot at Sydney but probably used it all there,” Cook said.
Australia finished with a 4-0 series win along with being in second place on the WTC 2021-23 points table.
