Virat Kohli On The Verge Of Equaling Record Of Sachin Tendulkar And Breaking Ricky Ponting’s Record In ODI Series Against England
Updated - 23 Mar 2021, 12:41 AM
Indian captain Virat Kohli will be on verge of breaking a couple of records when he leads the team in the three-match ODI series against England. The three ODIs will all be played in the MCA stadium in Pune, Maharashtra, and will be played without the fans in the stadium.
This is due to the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra and the matches will be all D/N affairs to be played on March 23, 26, and 28 respectively. India has already won the four-match Test series 3-1 and five-match T20I series 3-2 recently.
Virat Kohli To Equal Sachin Tendulkar’s Record For Most ODI Centuries At Home
Virat Kohli’s last ODI century came against the West Indies at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain in 2019, since then he hasn’t been able to hit another ODI century, though he has hit multiple half-centuries. The wait for his next century in ODI cricket has made his fans impatient as they want to celebrate his milestone.
Most hundreds in ODIs at home:
Sachin Tendulkar (IND) – 20 in 164 matches
Virat Kohli (IND) – 19 in 95 matches
Hashim Amla (SA) – 14 in 69 matches
Ricky Ponting (AUS) – 13 in 153 matches
Ross Taylor (NZ) – 12 in 106 matches
Virat Kohli Also In Line To Break Ricky Ponting’s Record For Most International Centuries As Captain
Not only did Virat Kohli’s last ODI century came in 2019 against the West Indies, but his last international century also came in 2019, in a Test against Bangladesh at home in Eden Gardens Kolkata. He is in a rich vein of form with 231 runs in recent 5 T20I matches against England. Kohli hit as many as 3 fifty-plus scores, including an unbeaten 80 in the series decider against England.
Kohli has been stuck on 71 international hundreds for more than a year now and if he scores a century against England in the ODI series, he will break Ricky Ponting’s record for most hundreds in international cricket as captain.
Currently, both Kohli and Ponting are equal at 41 centuries as captain in international cricket.
Most international hundreds as captain:
Virat Kohli (IND): 41 in 197 matches
Ricky Ponting (AUS): 41 in 324 matches
Graeme Smith (SA): 33 in 286 matches
Steve Smith (AUS): 20 in 93 matches
Michael Clarke (AUS): 19 in 139 matches
