According to the latest reports by Dainik Jagran senior reporter Abhishek Tripathi, Indian veteran Virat Kohli's fitness test was conducted in England; he is the first player whose fitness test has been undertaken by the BCCI outside India.
Ever since last year, 2024, Virat Kohli, since he retired from T20I cricket, has made his intentions clear to relocate to England permanently with his family, as the couple have often kept their children away from the spotlight. The couple has often been spotted on the streets of London.
Virat Kohli now stays in London for most of the span of the year, since he has also retired from the longest format of the game, and arrives in India only for the IPL and some international matches. He was last seen in the IPL final for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Virat Kohli has completed the BCCI's fitness Test in England
The Indian management had decided that every player would have to take up some fitness Tests after the long and tiring England tour, which had largely impacted many players. Even the likes of fit players like Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul had to bear the blow.
On the other hand, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were asked to undergo the tests to keep a check on their fitness since they were last seen playing for India back in the ICC Champions Trophy final in February 2025.
As all Indian players have been called in to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence for conducting the fitness Tests, Virat Kohli, who stays in London now, has been purposely tested by the BCCI in England instead of the CoE. This has been claimed by Abhishek Tripathi's reports.
He is the only player to have received such a facility in the history of the game, since Kohli became the first player to give a fitness check on foreign soil.
Rohit Sharma is to undertake the Fitness Test at the BCCI CoE
On the other hand, Indian ODI skipper Rohit Sharma, who, alongside Kohli, has retired from Tests as well as T20Is, was also last seen playing in the IPL for the Mumbai Indians and was seen in the Champions Trophy final for the Indian side.
For Rohit, his fitness has been a prime concern over the years, since his lack of fitness to continue the game has often been cited as a reason by the Indian management to drop him from the ODI side, as his body might not be ready to bear the burden till 2027, since he would be 40 by that time.
Sharma has likely taken up some portions of the series of fitness Tests, while the remaining ones, which would also include the Yo-Yo Tests and the Bronco Tests, in likely to be undertaken on the 13th of September at the BCCI Centre of Excellence.
Virat and Rohit's fate in the ODI team is on hold till the Asia Cup
Ever since they retired from the Test team and the Indian team's stunning performance in England despite the two veterans not being a part of the team, there have been speculations over a decision to be made on the fate of the two players in ODI cricket as well.
However, both legends have shown interest towards continuing in the One-Day format while the BCCI has also said nothing would be decided without having a word with the players, in a probable meeting to be held after the Asia Cup.
It was expected that both the legends Virat and Rohit would return for India in the white-ball series against Australia and could also feature against Australia A to keep themselves match fit ahead of the tour.
