Australia fast bowler Scott Boland got the big wicket of Virat Kohli in the second innings of the World Test Championship (WTC) final 2023.

The wicket was crucial in the context that Kohli was fighting a lone battle for India alongside Ajinkya Rahane.

Boland has now opened up on getting the wicket of Virat Kohli during that Test match.

The right-arm seamer bowled a full and wide ball and sucked Kohli into the drive. He got a thick outside edge which was caught brilliantly by Steve Smith at second slip.

It was a perfect sucker ball from Boland who already had Kohli uncertain with his impeccable lines and lengths.

His wicket led to a flurry of wickets which saw India lose the path. Allrounder Ravindra Jadeja was also dismissed a couple of balls later as the situation turned from bad to worse for India.

During a conversation with the ICC, Scott Boland remembered the wicket of Virat Kohli in India's second innings.

Boland further added that Kohli's wicket helped Australia set up the historic win.

"So I guess it was the start of Day Five. I can't remember what they needed but we still felt like the wicket was good where if they got going, they could chase the runs. So, it was nice to get him (Virat Kohli) out pretty early on Day Five and then help set up the win," Boland said.

Great match for Scott Boland

Scott Boland had a great time in the WTC Final 2023 as he picked up 5 wickets in the match. In the first innings, he bowled a controlled spell and finished with 2-59 in 20 overs. In India's second innings, he was even better and ended up with 3-46 in 16 overs.

The 35-year-old quickly picked up the big wickets of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja in that match. Kohli top-scored for India in the second innings with a fluent 49 off 78 balls, which included 7 fours.

Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma also got out in the forties. India were dismissed for just 234 while chasing a target of 444 runs.

Earlier, Australia scored a massive score of 469 in the first innings with the help of brilliant hundreds from Travis Head and Steve Smith. Mohammed Siraj picked up 4-108 in the innings but Indian bowlers had a tough time in the middle.

In reply, India were bundled out for just 296 thanks to a collective bowling effort from all Australian seamers. Ajinkya Rahane top-scored with 89 while Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur chipped in with vital contributions.

In the second innings, Indian bowlers fought hard as Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja led a strong comeback.

But Australia's lead after the first innings was too much to trouble them. Wicketkeeper Alex Carey scored a magnificent half-century as Australia declared their innings at 270-8.
