The TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, match no.20, was between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). During the second innings of the game, it was seen that star RCB batter Virat Kohli was off the field. Everyone knew that he was out due to the impact player rule.

However, it has been reported by Cricbuzz that Virat Kohli is off the field due to an ankle issue. It will be a huge blow for the defending champions in case Kohli gets ruled out of the tournament; however, the extent of the injury is still unknown. RCB management will be hopeful that there is nothing serious with their star batter.

Virat Kohli out of IPL?

Virat Kohli was reported to be struggling with a fever, but he still stood tall for his team during the MI vs RCB match. He played the role of the anchor during the opening stand with Phil Salt. Kohli scored 50 off 38 balls during the match. He was frustrated after getting out and also threw his gloves and helmet near the dugout.

Virat Kohli did not come on to the field during the MI vs RCB clash, which came shocking for everyone, as the former India captain is a livewire on the field and always provides his 100% and his aggressive celebrations when a wicket falls. Now he is sitting in the dressing room and watching the game, as he was replaced by Suyash Sharma as the impact player.

Virat Kohli makes new record against MI

Kohli has taken a new style of playing cricket after retiring from the T20Is; he has been more aggressive rather than being an anchor. However, sometimes, when needed, he plays the anchor role very well in IPL matches. Kohli, at the age of 37, became the first batter to accumulate 1,000 runs against the five-time champions.

Kohli has scored 1,030 runs against MI in 36 innings, with an average of 32.18 and a strike rate of 129.23, including an undefeated 92 and seven half-centuries. In the current IPL season, he has scored 179 runs in four innings at an average of 59.66 and a strike rate of 162.72, with two fifties and a top score of 69*.

RCB yet to provide official statement on Kohli's injury

The official update about Virat’s injury might be provided later tomorrow or ahead of RCB’s next game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The fans and management will hope that he is not ruled out for the next game. As in the match, his India teammate Rohit Sharma also pulled his hamstring and went back, retired hurt.

Coming to the match, RCB, after being invited to bat first, put a mammoth total of 240/4 with Phil Salt taking charge of the carnage, hitting and scoring 78 off 35 balls, and the skipper Rajat Patidar scored 50 in 17 balls, and then Tim David's 34 off 16 balls helped RCB post the highest ever total at Wankhede.
