Indian legend Virat Kohli pleased the Indian crowd on his return to International cricket on Indian turf. He smashed his 52nd ODI century, and in his entertaining innings, he broke a huge set of international records.
India might not have been the most confident side coming into the ODI series. They have their Captain and vice-captain ruled out due to injury, their best all-rounder rested, and their best paceman snubbed to focus on T20Is. However, the only positive thing for India was the return of the veterans.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have now decided to play only the ODI format; hence, they are desperate to make every inning count, and the veterans have done exactly that in the first ODI at Ranchi as well.
Virat Kohli makes a sensational return to international cricket on Indian soil
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were part of another dramatic century partnership, with some unlikely events, as Virat Kohli was the aggressor this time, while Rohit is often seen taking up that role. The Indian opener scored a half-century as well, but Kohli took the innings deeper after his dismissal.
The scoring rate might have dropped during the middle phase; however, it did not affect India much, as Kohli eventually gave some thrashing to the Proteas bowlers after he got to his remarkable 52nd ODI hundred.
A new side of Virat Kohli's game, as the legendary batter smacked the ball at times and hit 7 sixes in his innings. Kohli, with these hits, surpassed the former Australian captain Ricky Ponting to become the highest six-hitter as a no. 3 batsmen in international cricket. He was dismissed for 135 runs off 120 balls.
Virat Kohli surpasses Sachin Tendulkar for this record
As Virat Kohli has already surpassed the former Indian great Sachin Tendulkar's record for most hundreds in ODI cricket, he has surpassed him on a new list of records. Previously, Sachin Tendulkar, who had 51 hundreds in Test cricket, had the most hundreds in a single format of the game.
Now, with Virat Kohli scoring his 52nd ODI hundred, he has surpassed Sachin Tendulkar's record for most centuries in a single format of international cricket. Alongside this, it marked Kohli's 83rd century overall in the game of cricket.
