Virat Kohli Told Us About Leaving His Test Captaincy In A Team Meeting – Jasprit Bumrah

Star Indian speedster Jasprit Bumrah has revealed that Virat Kohli informed his teammates about relinquishing the Test captaincy in a team meeting.

On 15 January 2022, Virat Kohli stepped down as India’s Test captain after leading the team for 7 long years. Under Kohli’s leadership India became the dominant force in world Test cricket, he led India in 68 games and won 40, lost 17 and 11 matches ended in a draw.

Speaking in a virtual press conference Bumrah said that everyone in the dressing room respects Kohli’s decision to relinquish Test captaincy.

“Virat Kohli told us about leaving his test captaincy in a team meeting. It’s his decision. He knows his body. He knows his frame of mind. We respect that. It’s been a pleasure to play under his captaincy. I made my debut under him,” he said. 

Bumrah showered praise on the former Indian captain Kohli and said that he brought the energy and the fitness culture to the team.

“He brought in energy. He brought in the fitness culture. He was driven. Everybody moved in one direction under his leadership. He has been immense and he will still be the immense with his inputs,” he added.

Bumrah further added that “change is the only constant” and everyone in the team is responding very well to the changes and all the players are positive and ready to contribute to the team.

“See, I cannot speak for everyone, but for me, I can say it does not make that of a difference. We all are here to help in whatever way we can, and that is how everyone is responding to the changes. We understand how the process is going, change is the only constant.

“I do not think anybody is facing a problem or is in a weird space with the change that is taking place. Everyone in the team is quite positive and eager to contribute,” he further added.

Meanwhile, the three-match ODI series between India and South Africa will begin on Wednesday. KL Rahul will be leading the team in the series in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah will be his deputy.
