Phone number mix-ups are always a huge headache, and it gets even bigger when the problem occurs with celebrated people like our own Indian cricketers. Ravichandran Ashwin shares one such incident, when a fraud claimed Virat Kohli's number, impersonating a teammate of the CSK star.

India star batter Virat Kohli is one of the greatest cricket icons in the history of the game. He is among the few sportsmen with the largest fan base and the only cricketer in the top 10 list. Hence, this proves to what extent fans and spectators can go for a moment with their star.

Ravichandran Ashwin and Rajat Patidar faced some similar situations as they shared their experiences of people seemingly going to too far an extent to have Kohli's phone number. These two incidents have shown how tricky phone numbers can be for celebrities like our Indian cricketers.

Ravi Ashwin reveals being almost cheated by a fraud

On his YouTube channel, star Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin revealed his own experience. He said that a recent text he received on WhatsApp from an unknown number claimed to be from New Zealand opening batter Devon Conway.

Ashwin, who shares the dressing room with Conway at Chennai Super Kings, at first believed it to be genuine but got suspicious when the person started asking for Virat Kohli's number in exchange.

The incident reveals how Ravichandran Ashwin almost got tricked into revealing the star Indian cricketer's number to a fake profile, a man/woman who impersonated Conway.

Impersonating as Devon Conway, a man asked for Virat Kohli's number - caught by Ashwin

Ashwin revealed that, though initially not having any doubts, the suspicions crossed his mind when he started asking for Kohli's number.

To test the situation and the individual, Ashwin shared a non-active number of the Indian veteran. He then revealed that he had casually asked about a bat he had given to Conway, and the reply came that the bat was 'good,' which further raised Ashwin's suspicion.

This turned out to be the moment of revelations and realisation that it is someone impersonating the Kiwi cricketer, because in reality, Ashwin had never given any bat to Conway.

The former Indian spinner then quickly blocked the number and checked through the CSK communication channels only to confirm that it was a fake account.

Rajat Patidar's SIM incident that troubled RCB players

This is not some incident of impersonation but a clear circumstance that led to Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers calling a common man in Chhattisgarh who supposedly held possession of Rajat Patidar's old number.

The RCB IPL-winning skipper Rajat Patidar likely changed his number, and his old number, which was saved by greats like Virat Kohli and ABD, went to some man in Chhattisgarh when he bought a new SIM card. He received many calls from Kohli and de Villiers.

When Patidar became aware of the situation, he immediately informed the police, and the man was compelled to hand the SIM card back.
