Virat Kohli has set yet another record as his post to celebrate India's monumental triumph in the recently-concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2024 has become the most-liked Instagram post in India.

Team India, on Saturday (June 29), beat South Africa in a thrilling final to win the T20 World Cup for the second time. It is also India's first triumph in the tournament since MS Dhoni led the team to victory in the inaugural edition way back in 2007. The triumph ended India's long wait for an ICC trophy, having last won one way back in 2013.

Talking about the final, India defeated the Proteas by 7 runs to clinch the trophy. After Rohit Sharma opted to bat first, India were staring down the barrel as they lost three wickets for just 34 runs inside 5 overs However, Virat Kohli regained his form at the right time and played a brilliant knock of 76 runs to take the team to 176 for 6. Axar Patel also played an important knock of 47 runs.

In reply, South Africa finished their innings on 169/8. The African outfit was looking well set to win the game thanks to Heinrich Klaasen's quickfire fifty. At the end of the 16th over, they had raced away to 151 for 4 and needed just 26 runs from the last 4 overs with Klaasen as well as David Miller in the middle.

However, India pulled things back in style and went on to win the game in a thrilling fashion to cap off a memorable campaign in the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup. Hardik Pandya picked up 3 wickets while Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah claimed 2 wickets each.

Virat Kohli's Instagram post creates a record:

Virat Kohli was adjudged the Player of the Match for his brilliant knock that helped India recover from the poor start and post a winning total. And after the game ended, Kohli also announced his retirement from T20Is. Speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, the veteran batsman confirmed that the final was his last T20I game.

Soon after the presentation ceremony, Kohli took to Instagram to celebrate the victory with a post for his fans and followers. Expressing his delight and gratitude, the former India captain wrote: "Couldn’t have dreamt of a better day than this. God is great and I bow my head in gratitude. We finally did it 🇮🇳❤️🇮🇳❤️jai hind."

The post went viral in no time and it did not take long to create history either as it became the most-liked Instagram post in India. Kohli's post has racked up more than 16.4 million likes at the time of writing. The previous record was held by Bollywood actress Kiara Advani whose wedding post last year had garnered 16.2 million likes.
