Former India opener Virender Sehwag has named 5 big players he wants India to groom for the next T20 World Cup, which will commence in 2022 in Australia.
In Sehwag’s list, three players are already part of India’s 15-member ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 squad. The list contains wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan, KL Rahul, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer and Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 orange cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Speaking on his show Virugiri on Facebook, Sehwag said that the youngsters can be groomed for the next World Cup if they get the opportunity to play international games because they are the future of Indian cricket. He asserted:
“Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, KL Rahul and perhaps in the next world cup Ruturaj Gaikwad could be there and also Shreyas Iyer as well. These players can be groomed and given opportunities because they are the future.”
Rest Of The Senior Players Can Be Given A Break – Virender Sehwag
Virender Sehwag further added that the senior players who have been on road for a long time now can be rested, and the youngsters can be allowed to play the home T20I series so that they can prepare for the next T20 World Cup. He stated:
“So, the rest of the senior players can be given a break so that these players can play in the T20 series being played at home and gain some experience and prepare themselves for the next World Cup.”
Notably, India will lock horns with New Zealand just a few days after the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 ends. The T20 Internationals series is set to begin on November 17 in Jaipur.
Also, it has been reported that several senior players will be given the much-needed rest during the series because they have been in a bio-bubble for a very long period of time.
