Virender Sehwag and Shakib Al Hasan's cold war has intensified as the former India opener targetted the all-rounder for his innings against India.
Bangladesh were in action yesterday at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium for their second Super 8 game against Rohit Sharma's Men in Blue. The Bangla Tigers arrived in this fixture after losing their opening Super 8 tie to Australia in another one-sided affair and were in search of 2 points to remain relevant in the semi-final race.
However, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's fiery start to the 1st innings after losing the toss set the tone perfectly for the Inaugural winners. Then Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, and Hardik Pandya, the most notable, helped India reach over 190 runs.
In response, as expected, Bangladesh weren't able to chase the target. Liton Das, Tanzim Hasan, and Najmul Hossain Shanto were the only ones from the batting order to score some runs while the experienced Shakib Al Hasan underperformed.
Shakib Al Hasan started his innings well, scoring a six and a four but he tossed his 7th ball up in the air towards cover where Rohit Sharma grabbed. He was batting at a strike rate of nearly 158 and he could have been decisive for his side in this game but he was not patient enough.

Virender Sehwag targets Shakib Al Hasan for throwing his wicket

After seeing Shakib Al Hasan's dismissal yesterday, Virender Sehwag slammed the former for throwing away his wicket. Shakib's reluctance to support a set batter in the crease as well as spending time in the middle, was also criticized by Sehwag. Viru also couldn't understand why the former Bangladeshi Captain did so after getting to a decent start.
"When you have a set batter with you at the crease, at least support him. At least stay out in the middle and spend some time, try to get something out of the match. Instead, only 11 runs were scored off seven deliveries and then he walked back. So, I did not understand that," Sehwag told Cricbuzz.

That was not it. Virender Sehwag reiterated the point he made in a previous Cricbuzz appearance that Shakib Al Hasan should now give up on his spot for a youngster. All because the all-rounder did not live up to his name and the experience he earned in his 18-year-old cricketing career.
Virender Sehwag also reminded Shakib that he cannot hit a six off every ball just because he has smacked a few on the trot. Viru also questioned the left-hander's approach while chasing a target of 190+. Where he could have given himself some time to settle, Shakib ended up going the harm's way.
"He has so much experience. So, is he not making the most of it or does he simply not care? or was he thinking that the target is too big and I just scored a six, and now I will score a six off every ball. That's why I said it the last time itself, he needs to make way for a younger player now," Virender Sehwag concluded.
