Former India star batsman, Virender Sehwag is considered one of the most savage players of all time on and off the field, and in a recent podcast, he proved again why he is called that.

Sehwag was mostly known for his intense opening knocks for India and for giving the mighty Australians a taste of their own medicine.

In a recent episode of Vikram Sathaye’s ‘WHAT THE DUCK’ series, the 44-year-old revealed how his special bond with the umpires gave the Indian opener an upper hand against the former Aussie skipper, Ricky Ponting. A cricket troll account on Twitter shared a small clip of the podcast on social media and gained more than 800k views.

In the small clip, Sehwag disclosed one such savage story where he used to have fun with the umpires by having a chat with them when he is fielding.

Virender Sehwag said that once he came to an umpire and asked him if he wanted something and that he can arrange that for him since Sehwag is a superstar in India.

The former India opener further revealed that once an umpire fell for Sehwag’s words and asked him for dinner and the 44-year-old arranged that for him and asked the restaurant owner not to take money from the umpires.

Mere pass toh 2-3 kisse he umpire ke, kyun ki me jab fielding kar raha hota tha, umpire ke sath batee karta tha bohot ki unn se haasi mazak. Unn se puchta tha, ‘Do you want something? I can arrange it in India because I am a superstar in India’. So thode umpire uss jhanse me aa jate the, ‘ha ha I want to go and have a good dinner’. So organize kar dete the, restaurant owner ko bol dia ki Umpire aa rahe hain, don’t take money and all that toh woh set ho jaate the,” Virender Sehwag said.

Virender Sehwag explained such a story against Australia in Mohali and nicked the ball when he was at 90 and the umpire, Asad Rauf gave not out.

“Toh me ekbar 90 pe batting kar raha tha Mohali mein or Australia against, Asad Rauf umpire tha. So Asad Rauf, mene cut mara aur awaaz dressing room tak gai, kyuki Mohali me crowd nahi aata tha aur mein 90 pe tha, aur katak kar ke aawaz aaya and he said not out. Ricky Ponting daur ke aaya, keh raha ‘did you nick it?’ Maine kaha ‘Yeah’. ‘So why didn’t you walk’. I said, ‘you never walked, why are you asking me to walk you go and ask the umpire’. Toh wo umpire ke pass gaya, toh usne bola ki ‘Sehwag was saying that he nicked it’. So Asad Rauf came to me with Ricky Ponting. He asked me that, ‘Did you nick it?’ I said, ‘No, he is lying’,” Virender Sehwag further added.

Virender Sehwag made his India debut in 1999 in the 50-over format and following which he appeared in 251 matches and scored 8273 runs with a strike rate of 104.34. In Test cricket, Sehwag played 104 matches and scored 8586 runs with a strike rate of 82.23.
