Sri Lanka Cricket Team registered an incredible win against mighty Afghanistan. The Island nation chased down 314 runs against all odds. Due to this win, Sri Lanka now is placed in 9th position with 77 points from 21 matches. They still aren’t secured a direct qualification for ICC Cricket World Cup 2023.

Afghanistan on the other hand would be crestfallen as 314 is a massive target in ODI Cricket. The team wasn’t able to grab key moments of the game which hurt them. Afghanistan is already qualified for the marquee event with 115 points from 15 matches and is in 6th position.

During the 3rd over of Hasaranga, Najibullah Zadran’s LBW decision was overturned and Hasaranga was fumed up and pointed out at the giant screen. The charges were leveled by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Lyndon Hannibal, third umpire Raveendra Wimalasari and fourth umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge.

Wanindu Hasaranga admitted the offense and accepted the sanction proposed by Ranjan Madugalle of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, due to which there was no need of a formal hearing.

Steep Road Ahead of Sri Lanka

The Island Nation would be well aware of their next ODI Series which is against New Zealand. They have to make sure that they win the ODI Series which will take them to 97 points which most probably will assure them of direct qualification. The way they won against Afghanistan says a lot about the team’s dynamics as Afghanistan has a dangerous spin attack and some good rising pace bowlers present.

Skipper Dasun Shanaka will have to pull up his socks as the team needs to work on his fielding. In the 3rd ODI, the fielders weren’t able to stop the boundaries. Head Coach Chris Silverwood has a strenuous task on his hands as the absence of the banned all-rounder Chamika Karunaratne hurt the team a lot as he had the knack for breaking crucial partnerships.
