Washington Sundar has been declared fit one week ahead of the India National Cricket Team's three-match Test series against Afghanistan in Delhi. On September 7, Sports Tak reported on the current fitness status of Washington Sundar and the pace-bowling all-rounders Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
According to the media report, while the spin-bowling all-rounder, Washington Sundar, has passed the Test, Rana and Reddy will have to wait longer to get clearance from BCCI's medical team. Ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is also yet to receive clearance to play the series against Afghanistan.
Latest fitness updates of Washington Sundar, Harshit Rana, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Jasprit Bumrah
If the claims made by the media house are to be believed, then Harshit Rana and Nitish Kumar Reddy are scheduled to go under match simulations on September 7, and Bumrah will have to prove his fitness through the same on September 9. Final fitness reports of these four players are officially expected to arrive on the evening of September 9.
Washington Sundar, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, all of them were named for the India vs Afghanistan T20I series, subject to their fitness. This means they will be only eligable to play, if they can prove their fitness. As of now, Washington Sundar is likely to play in the series, and the other three cricketers continue to remain in doubt.
The injury of Harshit Rana was a lesson for the Indian team management
After the injury to Harshit Rana, BCCI reportedly decided to make sure by 200% before pushing any player for any competitive match. Rana returned with the Indian cricket team for the UK tour after a long injury layoff, but went out of action soon after playing only a handful of matches during the away tour. Because of the fresh injury he received during the series against England, the pace-bowling all-rounder was ruled out of the Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka series.
Another seam-bowling all-rounder, Nitish Kumar Reddy, is also doubtful for the Afghanistan series because of a quadriceps injury which he suffered in the ongoing year when India played against Afghanistan for an ODI and Test series at home. If he declares fit to feature in the upcoming series against the Afghanistan national cricket team, then it will be his first T20 International match since January 2025.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah, who missed the third ODI of the series against England due to an impact injury, missed the Sri Lanka series, and is yet to prove his match fitness to qualify for the T20I series against Afghanistan.
The returning series against Afghanistan will be hosted by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB), though the series will be held in Delhi, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The T20I series is set to begin on September 13, with all of the matches played at the same venue. India will be the favorite to win the series, as they defeated Afghanistan all of the matches previously played in 2026.
