Team India all-rounder Washington Sundar endured a disappointing outing in the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia. The left-handed batter managed to score only 10 runs off 10 balls before falling to left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Sunday, October 19.
Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh asked India to bat first after winning the toss. The home team ran through the Indian top order inside the powerplay. Shubman Gill (10), Rohit Sharma (8), and Virat Kohli (0) were dismissed for low scores. Washington came in to bat when India were struggling at 84/5 after 20 overs.

The dismissal took place on the third ball of the 24th over in India’s innings. Matthew Kuhnemann outsmarted Washington Sundar with a clever delivery, bowling a slower one on a good length that offered no pace for the batter to work with.
Sundar attempted a premeditated reverse sweep but misjudged the length of the ball. It flicked his glove before deflecting onto the stumps, ending his brief knock of 10 runs from 10 balls.
The wicket gave Kuhnemann his second of the match and left India further reeling as they continued to lose wickets in their bid to post a respectable total.

Australia Opts to Bowl First After Winning the Toss in Perth
Australia skipper Mitchell Marsh won the toss and opted to bowl first under cloudy conditions in Perth. The much-awaited return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli ended in disappointment as both fell cheaply.
Hazlewood removed Rohit for 8 in the third over, while Starc dismissed Kohli for a duck, his first in ODIs on Australian soil. Shubman Gill looked promising early but perished for 10, gloving a delivery down the leg side off Nathan Ellis.
Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel attempted to rebuild before rain halted play, only for Hazlewood to strike again after the resumption, sending Iyer back for 11. The rain interruptions reduced the match to 26 overs per side.
Australia Given a DLS Target of 131 Runs for Victory
Axar Patel scored 31 off 38 balls before falling to Matthew Kuhnemann, who made an impact in his very first over. KL Rahul smashed two sixes off Matthew Short to inject some much-needed momentum into the innings.
Rahul top-scored for India with 38 runs off 31 deliveries, while Nitish Kumar Reddy provided late fireworks with an unbeaten 19 off 11 balls, including two sixes. India managed to post 136 runs for the loss of nine wickets.
Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Owen, and Matthew Kuhnemann picked up two wickets each, while Mitchell Starc and Nathan Ellis claimed one apiece. Australia were given a DLS target of 131 runs for victory.
