Indian off-spin all-rounder Washington Sundar may have fallen short of what would have been his maiden hundred in Test match cricket but he has certainly made his family and every Indian cricket fan proud with his nerves of steel and skillful batting.
Shortly after he missed out on a well-deserved hundred, Washington’s sister posted a heartwarming message in one of her Instagram stories.
Her instagram story read: “I can’t put it in words how proud I’m of you. You were brilliant today again @washisundar555”
He might not have got his hundred but Washington Sundar with his skillful 96 once again proved that he is slowly and steadily becoming the crisis man for his team.
Since making his Test debut at the Gabba, Washington Sundar has now played four high-pressure knocks for his team. He scored a brilliant half-century in the first innings of the Brisbane Test during a match-winning 123-run-stand with Shardul Thakur and backed it up with a timely cameo in the second as India chased down 328 to seal the series.
Then in the first Test of the ongoing series, the all-rounder scored an unbeaten 85* and his knock was instrumental in India getting past the 300-run mark.
He endured back-to-back ducks in the next two Tests but come the final match, he was once again at his best as he stitched back-to-back 100-run partnerships with Rishabh Pant and Axar Patel to help India take a 160-run lead.
It was a brilliant knock by Washington Sundar, one that was littered with amazing strokeplay amid a lot of patience during the initial part of his innings.
He was eventually left stranded at 96 as India lost their last three wickets within a space of five balls but not before he had impinged his status as India’scrisis’ man.
