Alice Capsey, on Friday (August 11), fell prey to a comical stumping dismissal during the match between Northern Superchargers and Oval Invincibles in the ongoing The Hundred.
Talking about the game, the Superchargers beat the Invincibles by 14 runs to continue their impressive start in the tournament. Batting first, the Supercharges scored 143 for 4 in the allotted 100 balls. In-form Phoebe Litchfield continued her fine run with the bat and scored 68 off 45 balls with the help of 8 fours and a six.
She came out to bat on the very fourth ball of the match after Jemimah Rodrigues fell for a duck. Marie Kelly (10) also departed cheaply before Litchfield and captain Hollie Armitage (42) shared a 94-run stand for the third wicket. In reply, the Invincibles finished their innings on 129 for 5.
Alice Capsey’s bizarre dismissal:
Talking about Alice Capsey’s dismissal, it took place on the 30th ball of the innings. She started her innings on a positive note by hitting two boundaries in the first eight balls to race away to 13 runs. But before Alice Capsey could convert the start, she was stumped by Bess Heath.
On the 30th ball of the innings while facing spinner Georgia Wareham, Alice Capsey charged down the wicket. However, she completely failed to make any contact with the ball and assumed that she was stumped. In the meantime, Heath fumbled the ball a number of times behind the stumps while Alice Capsey did not even look back.
She did look back after a while and also tried to get inside the crease half-heartedly but the wicketkeeper finally managed to gather the ball and take the bails off.
