The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots were penalized by the red card rule during the third match of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024.

The St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots had to face the red card against the Trinbago Knight Riders due to a slow overrate in the recently concluded match.

In football, a red card is used by referees to penalize players for serious fouls, such as dangerous play or actions that obstruct a goal-scoring opportunity.

When a player receives a red card, they must leave the field immediately, and their team plays the rest of the football game with 10 players.

The Caribbean Premier League introduced a red card rule to control slow over rates and ensure games are completed on time.

This rule allows umpires to issue a red card penalty if a team is lagging behind schedule by the 20th over. Only ten players are allowed on the field after a red card is issued.

The Trinbago Knight Riders faced the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the third game of CPL 2024. The Patriots were penalized with a red card for being behind schedule at the start of the 20th over.

Captain Andre Fletcher had to remove a fielder from the field for the final six balls of the innings.

Coming to the match, Andre Fletcher won the toss and chose to field in St Kitts on August 31 (local time).

Nicholas Pooran played an entertaining knock and scored a destructive 97 runs off 43 deliveries. The left-handed batter smashed seven boundaries and nine sixes during his innings.

Keacy Carty scored a quick 73 from 35 balls, including nine boundaries and three sixes. The Knight Riders posted a mammoth total of 250/4 on the board after 20 overs.

Dominic Drakes conceded 77 runs in his four overs - the most expensive spell by a bowler in the history of the tournament.

In response, the Andre Fletcher-led team managed to score 206 runs for the loss of eight wickets in 20 overs.

Mikyle Louis (56 off 38), Tristan Stubbs (39 off 19), and Evin Lewis (39 off 23) chipped in with contributions but not enough to secure the victory against the Knight Riders in the match.

Execution With The Ball Wasn't That Well - Andre Fletcher

Speaking after the match, Andre Fletcher admitted that their bowling execution was poor. He acknowledged that Nicholas Pooran's outstanding performance significantly impacted the game.

"Execution with the ball wasn't that well. We knew there was a wind factor. Not taking away the way how Pooran played. He played well. He took the game away from us. We lost but we had some positives as well. Finding ways to contain him," Fletcher said.

"Carty played a good supporting role. We had some dropped chances. When we went out, I told the guys they did it and we can as well. Unfortunately, we didn't get over the line. We all know what Louis can do. He was a little nervous. I told him to entertain the people. He played a fantastic knock. I am happy for him."
