Gujarat Titans all-rounder Washington Sundar played a magical hand for his team in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The match between the two teams is taking place at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Washington Sundar, who walked out to bat at number four, came up with a brilliant effort with the bat and tilted the game in his team's favor. He came to bat after the Gujarat Titans lost two quick wickets and were under massive pressure while chasing the target of 153 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Washington Sundar counter-attacked the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers as he played some gorgeous shots in his innings. The all-rounder took all the pressure off Shubman Gill and brought Gujarat Titans back into the game, having lost two early wickets.
Washington Sundar was looking all set for a brilliant fifty but his stay at the crease was cut short by the brilliance of Aniket Verma in the field. On the 1st ball of the 14th over, Mohammed Shami bowled a short-of-length ball outside off delivery, to which the batter cut it uppishly towards the sweeper cover.
Aniket Verma ran in from the deep and dived in front to take it with both hands just above the ground. The decision was sent upstairs and umpire Nitin Menon after looking at a few angles mentioned that Aniket's hands were underneath the ball.
It seemed that the ball grazed the part of the ground before going into the fielder's hands, but the third umpire thought otherwise.

Skipper told me to bat as deep as possible - Washington Sundar
Sundar talked about his innings with the bat, saying that his skipper wanted him to take the game deep and finish the game. He also talked about his promotion in the batting order, saying that he loved his time in the middle. Speaking after the game, he said:
"It is better of you calling all the adjectives. Skipper told me to bat as deep as possible and wanted to finish the game for my team. This has been the trend in Hyderabad in the last few years, the wicket gets a little better so easier to chase 160-170.
"I was aware if it and it helped me. Coach asked me to go in at 4 especially after we lost a couple of wickets in the early overs, rare opportunity for me and I loved my time in the middle."
