India National Cricket Team batting stalwart Virat Kohli failed to perform in the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against the New Zealand National Cricket Team on Sunday, March 9.

Virat Kohli shockingly fails in the grandest stage

Kohli has the reputation of doing well in the big matches and he always brings out his very best in such games. As India headed into the summit clash of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, several cricket experts once again backed Kohli to do well for the team.

The stage was set for Virat Kohli to show the world why he is regarded as the best chaser in the history of the game, but he disappointed his fans and the Indian team.

Kohli came to bat in the middle after the dismissal of Shubman Gill for 31 and the end of a tremendous 105-run partnership between Gill and Rohit Sharma.

Fans would have been hoping for the Ro-Ko duo to fire together in the grandest stage, but that didn't happen as Kohli fell to Michael Bracewell on the first ball of the 20th over.

The spinner bowled a tossed-up delivery that drifted back into the right-hander, and Kohli backed himself on the tuck, closed the face of the bat, and the ball hit him on the pads.

The umpire raised his finger, and Kohli after a chat with his skipper Rohit Sharma, opted for a review. It looked clear 'out' and the ball-tracking showed exactly that with three reds.

Kohli walked back to the pavilion with his head down after scoring 1 run off 2 balls. Virat Kohli's wife Anushka Sharma, who was in the stands, was very disappointed after the failure of the batter and gave a heartbreaking reaction.

How India Made It To The Final of ICC Champions Trophy 2025?

Team India stormed into the final of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by remaining unbeaten in the group stage and hammering Australia in the semi-final.

India started off their campaign with a comprehensive victory against Bangladesh, chasing down 229 with six wickets in hand. The Indian bowlers set the tone, restricting Bangladesh to a modest total before the batters ensured an easy chase.

Then, India locked horns with arch-rivals Pakistan in the much-anticipated clash, and Virat Kohli rose to the occasion with an unbeaten 100 runs off 111 balls, guiding India to a six-wicket win with 45 balls remaining while chasing 242.

In their final group-stage match, India faced a strong Team New Zealand and posted 249/9 on the board, thanks to a solid knock from Shreyas Iyer (79). With the ball, Varun Chakravarthy wreaked havoc with his five-wicket haul, bundling out New Zealand for 205 and securing a 44-run victory.

After that, India faced their toughest challenge in the semi-final when they faced off against Australia. However, a clinical performance saw them chase down 265 with four wickets in hand, thanks to Virat Kohli's stunning 84-run knock and Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel's great contributions.
