The Axar Patel-led Delhi Capitals (DC) took on the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 29th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Delhi Capitals lost the IPL 2025 match against the Mumbai Indians by 12 runs on Sunday, April 13, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.

We had the game in the bag - Axar Patel

Winning the toss and bowling first in the match, Delhi Capitals restricted Mumbai Indians to 205/5 in 20 overs as Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam bagged two wickets each.

Chasing the target, Karun Nair smashed a sensational 89 runs, but the failure of the rest of the batters to go with a hat-trick of run-outs resulted in them losing the match in the 19th over.

After the match, Axar Patel spoke to the broadcasters, and Murali Kartik told the DC skipper he looked disappointed. Hearing this, the latter started smiling and gave a savage reply to his question.

Murali Kartik said, "Disappointment dikh raha hai apki shakal pe. Kahan gaya match aapke hisab se? (Axar, we can see the disappointment on your face. Where did the match go away, according to you?)

Axar Patel (started smiling) and replied, "Mumbai ke paas. (Match went to Mumbai)."

Axar Patel further said that some soft dismissals and bad shots played by the batters cost them the match. He said:

"We had the game in the bag. Some soft dismissals and bad shots in the middle order. You can't leave it to the batters in the lower order every time. Don't need to overthink, just one of those days. Was happy at the halfway stage."

Axar Patel further lauded his spinners for doing a great job in the match and advised his batters to move on from the loss. He stated:

"The ball was stopping initially but it got better. And then dew helped us further. Out of our three spinners, two can bowl in powerplay and death as well. Kuldeep is bowling unbelievably well. Need to forget this game from a batting point of view."

How did DC perform in the previous IPL match against MI?

Delhi Capitals delivered a good performance in their previous IPL match against the Mumbai Indians and sealed a 10-run victory in Delhi.

Batting first, Jake Fraser-McGurk looked unstoppable in the powerplay, racing to his fifty in just 15 balls. He finished his innings with a score of 84 off 27 balls, with 11 fours and 6 sixes.

After his dismissal at 114/1 in the 8th over, Shai Hope slammed a 17-ball 41. DC batters didn’t allow the momentum to drop, with Tristan Stubbs hammering 48* off 25 to close out the innings as Delhi Capitals posted a gigantic total of 257/4.

While defending the score, DC bowlers were put under pressure several times. Khaleel Ahmed bagged two wickets in the powerplay and Mukesh Kumar, though expensive, chipped in with three crucial wickets.

However, the real game-changer was Rasikh Salam as he removed Hardik Pandya and Nehal Wadhera in the same over to shift the momentum in his team's favor. Despite the fireworks from the Mumbai Indians batters, DC managed to restrict MI to 247/9 and bagged a win in a thrilling encounter.
