West Indies legends Brian Lara and Viv Richards slammed Roston Chase after the current captain lost his wicket in shocking fashion on Day 2 of the ongoing second and final Test against India in Delhi.

The collapse continued for the West Indies as Roston Chase walked back without scoring after facing seven balls, leaving the touring side in deeper trouble as India declared their innings at 518/5 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi on Saturday (October 11).

It happened in dramatic fashion when Ravindra Jadeja, with his sharp turn and clever flight, completely deceived Roston Chase. The West Indies captain tried to flick a length delivery from Ravindra Jadeja towards the leg side but ended up giving a simple return catch back to the left-arm spinner.

The shot went completely against the turn, and the Indian all-rounder made no mistake in completing the catch. His dismissal left Brian Lara and Viv Richards in utter disappointment. As Chase walked off disappointed, the camera showed Lara and Richards in the stands, visibly frustrated.

Both legends seemed to gesture that the right-handed batter should have played the ball towards the off side instead of going against the spin. With Roston Chase's dismissal, the West Indies slipped further into trouble at 107 for 4, hanging their hopes of a strong fightback by a thread.

West Indies openers continue slump

Meanwhile, West Indies’ openers continue to struggle badly against India in Delhi. They have now gone 40 innings without putting together a century stand, and their last 50-run opening partnership came 10 innings ago.

Since that last 100-run opening, the first wicket has only added an average of 20 runs, showing just how poor their starts have been in the Test cricket.

In their second innings, the West Indies are struggling at 140 for 4 in 43 overs, with Shai Hope batting steady on 31 off 46 balls and Tevin Imlach adding 14 off 31. India’s spinners are keeping the pressure on. Washington Sundar has bowled 7 overs without a wicket, giving away 23 runs, while Ravindra Jadeja has been deadly, taking 3 wickets in 14 overs, showing why he is such a key threat.

Despite showing more fight than they did in Ahmedabad, the Windies continue to lose focus at crucial moments, costing them valuable wickets in Delhi. West Indies’ John Campbell fell in a bizarre dismissal, but Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze managed to stabilize the innings with a 66-run partnership for the second wicket.

That resistance didn’t last, as Chanderpaul’s wicket sparked a mini-collapse. Shai Hope is playing positively, and Tevin Imlach is showing calm and assurance at the crease. The wicket still has runs left, giving the Windies a chance to rebuild and aim for strong batting on day three.

Earlier, India declared at 518 for 5, with Yashasvi Jaiswal scoring 175 and Shubman Gill hitting an unbeaten 129 in the ongoing second and final Test against the West Indies in Delhi.
