A horrific incident involving Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft unfolded during a Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25 match at the Perth Stadium on Friday, January 3.
During the 22nd match of the league between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder, Daniel Sams, and Cameron Bancroft were involved in a devastating collision that left the players in both camps extremely worried and scared.

Daniel Sams stretchered off after a collision with Cameron Bancroft
The incident happened in the first innings of the match when Perth Scorchers were batting. On the second ball of the 16th over, Ferguson bowled a leg-lined delivery to Connolly, who heaved it over square leg.
Looking at the ball go up in the air, Sydney Thunder players Daniel Sams and Cameron Bancroft came in running to take the catch. Both the players were ball-watching, and due to this, they ended up colliding with each other.
It was an absolutely horrendous collision as Sams and Bancroft were unable to get up after the incident as they banged their face against each other.
Bancroft immediately held onto his face and was left bloodied while Sams was lying flat on the ground. The medical staff rushed on the field after the collision to check on the players and after some time, Bancroft with a bloodied nose was able to walk off the field with the physio.
However, things looked extremely serious with Sams as he couldn't get up and was stretchered off the field.
Speaking on-air Mel Jones was shocked as she talked about the incident unfolding on the ground. She said as quoted by Fox Cricket:
“There’s been a horrendous collision. There’s concern here. Both players fully committed to the ball, eyes on it. Didn’t see each other coming. This is what you don’t want to see.
“The major concern is around Daniel Sams. It’s Cam Bancroft on his feet actually walking off the ground. Looks like some damage done to his nose. Such courage – it was all eyes on the ball for both of them. It’s the last thing you want to see in any form of sport. It’s going to take a little while for the players to recoup and get back into things as well.”
Also, instantly after the incident it was confirmed that the duo wouldn't be able to take part in the match. All the players, fans, support staff, and broadcasters present at the ground were shaken by the incident, and the game resumed after a lengthy delay.

Meanwhile, the commentator Steve O’Keefe felt that the massive Perth crowd played a role in the awful collision between Sams and Bancroft, as the players, couldn't hear each other's call.
“It’s going to be so difficult to switch back on. These big stadiums, you can’t quite hear, yelling a player off the ball and something like this happens. Completely accidental, but it’s horrific to see. You can only hope they walk out of this with minor injuries. As a side, it really is hard now to regroup," he said as quoted by Fox Cricket.
