It was the ‘big show’ Glenn Maxwell, who was the highlight of the Australian innings during the second T20I match against West Indies. Maxwell slammed a brilliant century and once again proved why he is known to be one of the best hitters in the modern-day era. Maxwell played an innings of 120 runs from 55 balls and smashed a total of 12 fours and 8 sixes throughout his innings.
Glenn Maxwell smoked a 109-meter six against opponent pacer Alzarri Joseph. On the second ball of the 12th over, Maxwell cleared his front leg and smashed the ball towards the mid-wicket region. The ball went a long way back in the stands whereas the speed of the ball was around 144.2 kmph.

Courtesy of Glenn Maxwell’s unbeaten century, Australia could put up a first-innings score of 241/4. The Aussies didn’t start well with the bat as they lost Josh Inglis for 4 runs. David Warner also was not able to do much and got out for 22 runs from 19 balls. Australian skipper Mitchell Marsh walked back to the dressing room for 29 runs from 12 balls. While the wickets kept on falling from one end, Maxwell took charge from the other end and continued to hit and smashed the West Indies pacers to all parts of the ground.
Marcus Stoinis got out for 16 runs whereas Tim David remained unbeaten on 31 runs from 14 balls and smashed 2 fours and 2 sixes. At last, Australia were able to put up a humongous target of 242 runs against the West Indies.
Glenn Maxwell also gave an example of his big-hitting during the ODI World Cup 2023 as well. Maxwell scored a brilliant double-hundred against Afghanistan during the round-robin match of the tournament when the Aussies were almost on the verge of losing the match.
With seven wickets down under 150 runs and 290 odd runs needed to win, Maxwell began to smash sixes against the Afghani bowlers and despite being cramped, he played one of the best innings of his international career and smashed a brave double hundred.
Glenn Maxwell will prove to be a very lethal player for the opposition in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. In the kind of form the right-handed batsman has been in for the last few months, he will surely be among the top run scorers of the biggest T20I competition in international cricket and can also help Australia win the T20 World Cup after 2021.
Getting back to the West Indies tour of Australia, the Men In Maroon were able to level the Test series by 1-1, whereas they had a poor outing in the three-match ODI series and faced a whitewash against the Kangaroos. West Indies showcased decent batting during the first T20I match of the series and just ended up losing the match by 11 runs while chasing down over 210 runs.
With the kind of batting lineup, West Indies, they cannot be considered out of the match whereas the Australian bowling attack is also a bit inexperienced and no other bowler other than Josh Hazlewood has much experience of bowling in international cricket.
