Punjab Kings left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar has directly slammed the team management for keeping him on the bench in the ongoing IPL 2025. After Punjab Kings’ (PBSK) 37-run win over Lucknow Super Giants, Harpreet Brar has taken to his social media handle to express his frustration.
PBKS had snapped up the Monga star for INR 1.5 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction, but the franchise has yet to utilize his orthodox left-arm spin bowling most in the tournament. Harpreet Brar has so far played only four matches and taken four wickets in the tournament.

Harpreet Brar was asked whether PBKS’ new signing, Mitchael Owen, will play in their next game against Delhi Capitals on May 8 in Dharmshala, and his response is very relevant to a general human being. In a viral video, Harpreet Brar said that even he doesn’t know about his own chances in the playing XI, so how could he talk about Michael Owen?

Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have been in sensational form under Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy, winning seven of their 11 games, and one match was washed out so far in the ongoing IPL 2025. They are currently sitting in the third spot in the points table with 15 points to their account.

Ahead of the PBKS vs DC IPL 2025 match, head coach Ricky Ponting has welcomed Mitchell Owen to the Punjab squad for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. The Australian uncapped all-rounder will replace Glenn Maxwell, who was ruled out of the tournament after sustaining a finger injury.

Ponting called Owen an exciting player with great potential while praising his all-around abilities that add balance to the team. He is now hoping that the youngster joins PBKS soon and makes an impact. He is currently playing in the ongoing IPL 2025.
Ricky Ponting said at the press conference, “I think we're all very happy to add Mitchell Owen to our squad for the back end of this season… He’s someone that I've watched very closely, especially over the last 12 months. He's a very exciting player, a very exciting package.”
The coach added, “He is someone that can bat lots of different positions in the order and can bowl some very handy medium pace as well, which will be really good for us. I'm really excited to have him as part of the group and looking forward to him getting over here sooner rather than later.”

PBKS CEO Satish Menon welcomes Mitchell Owen to the side
The 23-year-old Owen, who was signed by Punjab Kings for INR3 crore, has already made a mark in T20 cricket with 647 runs and 10 wickets from just 35 matches.
Known for his explosive batting, Owen has smashed two centuries in the format, including a top score of 108.
On the other hand, PBKS CEO Satish Menon has expressed high praise for Mitchell Owen, calling him a promising talent with the right attitude to succeed in the IPL.
In a team release, Menon described Owen as an “exciting young prospect” and said the team is eager to see what he brings to the table in the Punjab Kings setup.
